At around 8:55 A.M. on February 17th, police in Las Vegas received an alert about a “wanted” and armed suspect who was allegedly barricading himself inside of a residence. While it’s unclear what alerted the police to the situation, it’s said that they responded to the situation promptly.
Once on scene, police discovered that the wanted suspect was in a home in the 5000 block of Hayward Avenue. In an attempt to deescalate the situation, authorities called out SWAT officers and crisis negotiators.
After two and a half hours of discussions and prompting, the person was finally taken into custody. Reports say the person surrendered peacefully at 11:30 A.M.
Right now, no further details are being released about the suspect, the incident, or the details of the person’s crime.
No one enjoys the thought of getting arrested. Unfortunately for both suspects and police alike, sometimes facing criminal charges can trigger a person’s flight or fight response. If that happens to you when police are attempting to take you into custody, then you could make very bad decisions.
This is the exact reason why you see so many videos of suspects running away from the police or even K-9 units. It’s also sometimes the cause of barricading situations like the one above.
If you know there’s a warrant out for your arrest or you’re facing an arrest at a traffic stop, then it’s important to always listen to the police! While your situation isn’t ideal, you can get in touch with a lawyer as soon as you go through the booking process and have the opportunity to do so. Any adverse action you take could very likely result in additional charges, physical harm, and even increased criminal penalties.
So, what should you do if you know you’re on the wrong side of the law? The best advice you can follow is to listen to any immediate commands from officers, speak with criminal defense attorneys as soon as possible, and start working on a defense strategy.
