34-year-old Chasen Bradford worked very hard to obtain a job working as a Henderson police officer. Still, all of his training, education, and persistence amounted to nothing as he got fired about 48 hours after officially accepting an offer.
According to police, the newly hired rookie was just welcomed to the department on March 21 along with 13 other police academy graduates.
Just one night after receiving this amazing news, Bradford made the mistake of choosing to drink and drive. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence. He was booked into the Henderson Detention Center.
The Henderson Police Department put out a statement after news of the arrest went public. The authorities said that their department has a zero tolerance policy for driving while under the influence. They also confirmed that no one was harmed as a result of the newly hired officer’s recklessness, but the officer will be losing his position at the Police Department effective immediately.
The recent incident is still under investigation.
On average, about one in 10 arrests are the result of driving while under the influence. If you were recently taken to jail as a result of drinking and driving, then it’s important for you to hire a DUI defense attorney as soon as possible because an arrest and especially a conviction can completely derail your financial, professional, and personal life.
First, a DUI might immediately impact your ability to work. You’ll be arrested and taken to jail. This could cause you to miss time off of work until you secure bail money. Even once you’re able to get out on bail, your driver’s license will also be suspended as a result of your arrest. That means you won’t be able to legally drive yourself to work until you resolve your legal situation.
For your driver’s license situation, you have a very limited time to request a DMV hearing to preserve your right to drive back and forth to work. If you don’t request a hearing promptly, then your license will automatically be suspended.
Another way that a DUI charge can derail your plans is if you get convicted. If convicted, then you could be ordered to serve out time in jail, perform community service, pay fines to the court, and experience a long-term license revocation.
Since time isn’t on your side and the potential consequences of a conviction are significant, it usually makes the most sense to hire a DUI defense attorney to help you navigate your charges. The right lawyer will help you develop a solid defense strategy that’s likely to produce the most favorable legal outcome in your situation.
