At around 6:00 P.M. on January 26, 2024, two individuals were inside of a garage at a residence near the 5200 block of Greene Lane. The two friends were conversing with the garage door open. Suddenly, two unknown individuals reportedly approached the duo, pointed a gun at them, and robbed them. The two suspects proceeded to flee on foot.
It’s unclear what happened next, but both of the robbery victims decided to chase the suspects rather than backing down. When the two friends caught up to the robbers, an altercation ensued. After words were exchanged, a physical fight broke out.
One of the suspects pulled out the firearm and shot both robbery victims. The suspects ran off and were nowhere to be found once police officers arrived at the scene. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, one of the victims passed away as a result of the gunshot, while the other individual was in critical condition.
Right now, police are investigating what happened. They have not yet identified the suspects or made any arrests. Anyone with information about this incident can anonymously report tips to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
Based on the series of events as they’ve been laid out by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the fatal shooting that occurred after the robbery doesn’t seem to be the original intent of the suspects. The suspects clearly did intend to rob the victims, but it was the victims who pursued the suspects on foot until an altercation occurred.
That said, it might be possible to construct a defense strategy based around these facts to reduce potential murder charges against the suspects. If the shooting occurred in self-defense during the physical fight, then it might be possible to have any potential murder charges reduced, dismissed, or dropped.
Murder is the most serious crime a person can be charged with in Las Vegas. Under the Nevada Constitution, capital punishment is still a legal punishment that can be levied against murderers. That said, if you’re worried about getting charged with murder or you’ve been involved in a fatal shooting, it’s absolutely critical to hire a legal representative as soon as possible.
The right lawyer will help you identify all your potential options for getting those charges reduced or dismissed.
Armed robbery is also a very substantial crime in Las Vegas that can result in up to 15 years in prison on its own. Any type of crime that you do commit is usually considered more severe with greater penalties when a firearm is involved, especially if that firearm is discharged during the commission of the crime. That said, if you get accused of committing a robbery or any type of crime with a firearm, then you should hire a criminal defense attorney ASAP.
