Three people have been injured in a drive-by shooting on Saturday morning at the Stage Door Casino near the Strip, police and news outlets recently reported. According to witness information, a fight broke out at a nearby parking lot, and not long after, a car drove by and proceeded to rain a hail of bullets at the bar as they passed.
Although three people were reported injured, their injuries were not life-threatening, and are expected to recover. Meanwhile, police closed a portion of Flamingo Rd during the early hours of the morning while the area was under investigation to understand exactly why and how this crime occurred. More information on this crime has not been released at this time.
Unfortunately, hearing about a drive-by shooting or other gun crime happening on the Las Vegas Strip is all too common, and gun violence continues to wreak havoc on the city. However, many people who deal with weapon’s charges or violate gun laws may find themselves in legal hot water. That’s why it’s important to be educated on gun laws before you bring your firearm with you into Nevada–you wouldn’t want to be caught unaware or in the wrong place at the wrong time and find yourself charged with a crime.
In this particular drive-by shooting, it is likely that once the perpetrator is found, they can expect to be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, which is a felony crime in Nevada, as well as other possible charges. The penalty for this type of crime will indeed be more severe if it is found that the shooter illegally obtained his firearm or was otherwise unauthorized to carry a weapon.
Assault with a deadly weapon is a Class B felony in Nevada and carries with up to six years of jail time as well as up to $5,000 dollars in fines. While this may seem like a steep penalty, it is important to note that assault with a deadly weapon can often lead to life-changing injuries or even death. The severity of the punishment will depend upon many factors, but if the victims of the assault are seriously hurt, you can be assured that the criminal courts will pursue it to the highest degree.
As of late, the world has changed in many ways, and it’s important to stay wary of your surroundings. Oftentimes, those who are charged with gun crimes were merely protecting themselves (although this does not seem to be the case in the above situation, which does appear to be an act of malicious intent), and end up with a criminal charge on their record due to behavior that arose in self-defense.
