Early reports suggest that the incident began just prior to 2 P.M. when the police department received a phone call for assistance. On the phone, the caller expressed concern for a “suicidal” individual who was also armed. The caller advised the police that the individual was around the 6100 block of Allen Cove Court.
Once the authorities responded to the call and arrived at the scene, they immediately heard a gunshot fired from within a residence.
According to Metro Captain Esmeralda Boveda, officers immediately rushed towards the residence, where they encountered an armed person. Reports suggest that the armed male pointed his firearm at the group of officers as they attempted to establish a dialogue with him. Tragically, one officer witnessed the suspect lifting up his weapon at the officers and discharged his own firearm in response. The shot hit the suspect.
No officers were injured in the shooting. The suspect was rushed to a local hospital, but he was pronounced deceased a short time later. So far, the police have declined to release the identity of the victim.
In initial reports to the media, officers said the armed suspect refused to drop his firearm as he exited the residence.
This recent incident marks the second officer-involved shooting of 2025.
Police shootings are always a tragedy, regardless of who was at fault for the incident. In general, any incident that rises to this level will be immediately investigated by the police department where the officer is employed. If your loved one was hurt or killed in a similar shooting, then you might also consider launching a private investigation that isn’t conducted by the department itself.
One of the best ways to ensure your rights are upheld is to hire an attorney after the incident. They can help launch an investigation and identify what happened. The right lawyer will also help you identify your rights and options based on the circumstances of the shooting.
If you were accused of a crime and then injured in a police shooting, then it’s vital to promptly hire a criminal defense attorney. The right lawyer will help you advocate for yourself to the fullest while also defending you against any charges that may have been levied against you as a result of the shooting or that led to the shooting.
